Congratulations to MD-Sweet-16 2018 Chess Champion Sahil Sinha (2355), 11th grader at Poolesville HS in Montgomery County. The MD-Sweet-16 Chess Champion will receive a 4-year MD-Sweet-16 UMBC Chess Scholarship to attend the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, valued at $46,072. (There are 2 additional types of UMBC Chess Scholarships for which high-school seniors from any state are eligible.)

Welcome to the 2017-2018 qualifying season for the Maryland Sweet 16 2018 on 2018.03.03-04. Since 1995 this annual invitational tournament has featured 16 of the top K-12 Maryland players competing in a separate section of the UMBC Open at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The MD-Sweet-16 tournament-announcement page contains all tournament details, including qualification rules & Varsity-Points scoring rules. The MD-Sweet-16 Champion will receive a MD-Sweet-16 UMBC Chess Scholarship, valued at $46,072. (There are 2 additional types of UMBC Chess Scholarships for which high-school seniors from any state are eligible.)
8 of the 8 scheduled MD-Sweet-16 Qualifiers in this qualifying season have been completed. The Final Standings include the results of MD Chess Poly & Western January (NEW DATE) on 2018.02.17.

Congratulations to Cahree Myrick, who finished 1st out of 249 players in the K-8 Under 1000 section at SuperNationals 2017 and is featured in Baltimore magazine. Currently an 8th grader at Roland Park EMS in Baltimore, Cahree developed his skills in the Baltimore Kids Chess League.
